About this music:

The waltz "An der schönen blauen Donau" has often been labelled as the inofficial anthem of Austria. It was first performed on 13.February 1867. Nowadays it is played every year at the end of the New Years Concert from Vienna.

Background of this recording:

In December 1999 I was looking for something special to make for the beginning of the year 2000, and I decided to create a rendition of this work. Started with the recording on 4.December 1999 and completed it just in time on 31.December. That version had a layering of sounds from the Yamaha MU-80 synthesizer plus a few soundfonts, running on a Soundblaster AWE 64. On 29.December 2010 I decided to re-record this work with the Garritan Personal Orchestra 4 samples, and it was released on 1.January 2011.

When watching the New Year's Concert 2011 under the conductor Franz Welser-Möst, I noticed that the orchestra also used "piatti" (cymbals) in the percussion section. However, the score I have been using , only has the following percussion: big drum, small drum, timpani, triangle An artistic freedom, or omission of Dover Publishing?
